Program Director and Head Coach: Jorgen Anderson
I was a racer for the Apex Ski Club in the 1980’s and went on to race many years at the FIS level. When I finished racing, I spent 5 years with the Club as an Assistant Coach and then Head Coach. Feeling the need to move on, I attended the University of Victoria. While attending university, I was a coach for the Mt. Washington Ski Club. After university, I followed my interest to work with developmentally disabled children, specializing in autism. During this time, I also discovered the world of fishing, and I continue to guide in areas all over the West Coast of British Columbia. My wife and I always wanted to return to the Okanagan, and in the summer of 2008, we moved with our daughter back to the Penticton area. This was the best move ever! Skiing, summer, four seasons. I started coaching again, managing the Nancy Greene program for the Club. At this time, the Club was very small but had many eager young skiers. I became Head Coach and Program Director in 2011 and have enjoyed every minute. I am very blessed to have such an amazing Club to work for. Always a believer in following your passion!
U14 Head Coach and Assistant Program Director: Brent Schleppe
I started ski racing in Banff in the Nancy Greene ski program, moved up to the FIS program then raced with the Alberta Ski Team where I competed in the Canadian and U.S. National championships from 1979 to 1981. I have been coaching with the Jasper Ski Team for the last 14 years and have spent the last 7 years as head coach for the club’s U14 and U16 Alpine Programs. I am passionate about promoting sports and healthy lifestyle for youth. I am on skis year round; coaching ski racers in the winter and waterskiing in the summer. My other interests include racing triathlons and mountain biking. Coaching U16 athletes at Westerns held at Apex a number of years ago was my first introduction to the Apex Ski Team, and the amazing race and training terrain the area has to offer. The opportunity to be a member of the Coaching Team with the Apex Ski Club this winter will be amazing and fits perfectly with our family plan to reside in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. I feel very privileged to be able to coach the Apex U14’s and assist with directing the program this season. I am really looking forward to working with the Apex coaching staff in developing Apex athletes and building their passion for skiing and “Sports for Life”.
U12 Head Coach: Tyrah Henderson
I started skiing when I was 12. I spent that first season admiring ski racing from afar as I navigated Apex’s beginner runs and became more and more intrigued by the idea of going fast. I started U14 the following season with Apex Ski Club with a lot of room to grow. My U14-U16 years were spent at Apex doing that growing and I learned a lot from the time I spent there. I took those skills into FIS, where I raced for three years with the Okanagan Ski team. I became passionate about not only ski racing but also about an active life, a life in the mountains and a life of working to achieve goals. Skiing has taught me so many things but it has also been the most fun I’ve ever had. I am excited to work with the U12’s this year as they work to achieve their goals, develop their love of skiing and have the most fun.
